Pelops

7

Definition:

Pelops was the son of Tantalus and Atlas' daughter Dione. When Pelops was a child, his father slew and fed him to the gods. When the gods restored him to life there was a chunk missing at his shoulder where Demeter had eaten a bite. She replaced the missing shoulder with a piece of ivory.

Pelops was one of the suitors of Hippodamia, daughter of King Oenomaus of Pisa. All suitors were required to submit to a fatal race with the king.

Pelops persuaded Myrtilus/(Myrtilos), the charioteer of the king, to remove Oenomaus' chariot's lynchpins, and so he won the race and the bride.
