Getting Motivated in the Workplace
They say that if your job is something you love doing then it doesn't seem like work. We all would like to find that perfect dream job but that doesn't always happen. Even if we do have that perfect job our motivation to do it can sometimes go up and down. In perfect situations and jobs our drive can sometimes need a jump start. I would venture to say that it would be easier to jump start motivation doing something you love rather than doing something just to pay the bills.
There are a number of factors affecting your motivation in the work place. Hostile work environments, co-workers, bosses, or even what your job is could be affecting your productivity. Regardless of whatever your reasons your motivation is what you can control. When we look at the bigger picture in any situation, we tend to react less to the daily flare-ups and problems because when we have the greater picture in mind, we ultimately know that we are working to a greater good.
Think if you are in a position that has nothing to do with what you want to do or anything remotely close to your why. This temporary position is just that, temporary. Something that is short term we know isn't permanent. We tend to react less to whatever problems and issues arise and we ‘put up' with a lot more and care a little less. Keep in mind also that this job you don't like and those co-workers you don't care for are just providing you a stepping stone to fund your dream.
You need income to live and to fund your ideal lifestyle. If you think your job has nothing to do with your passion, you are wrong. Still pursue your passion and use this job to bring it to fruition. Keeping that in the back of your mind will keep you cool when your boss is riding your back or when facing deadlines. You use this job to fund your passion. Pursue your passion until you can profit from it. Continue profiting from it until you can earn a full time income to replace your current job then I think you know what to do.
If you do have your dream job and are facing a lull in motivation, reflect on your why. Reflect on your goals every single day and always keep them near you. Focusing on them will get you excited again and kick start your drive again and get you going on down the road. Life is a journey and it is only up to us to keep moving. Once we stop moving we stop living. Focus on your why, passion, and goals and go for it. Let nothing get in your way of your dream and know that your job is simply a vehicle to get you to it.
