How to Make Miniature Chairs
- 1). Create a paper pattern for the chair's seat. Draw a 1 1/4-inch-by-1 1/2-inch rectangle. Erase and redraft one of the short sides to give it a slight curve; this will be the front of the seat.
- 2). Draw a pattern for the back of the chair. Draft this piece to be 1 inch wide and 2 inches tall. Redraft one of the short sides to have a curve, but make this curve more drastic (feel free to alter this shape as you like).
- 3). Cut out both paper patterns.
- 4). Trace the two paper patterns onto the wood in pencil, then cut them out using the scroll saw or oscillating cutter. Erase any pencil lines that remain.
- 5). Cut four 2-inch sections of dowel. These will be the chair's legs.
- 6). Assemble the wooden pieces using wood glue. Glue the ends of the chair leg dowels to the four corners of the bottom of the chair first. Let this piece dry with the seat up before attaching the back of the chair to the edge of the seat. Let this dry.
- 7). Sand the chair. Pay special attention to the cut edges and the bottoms of the dowels.
- 8). Stain and varnish or paint the chair. For stain and varnish, apply according to the manufacturer's instructions as you would with a full-sized woodworking project. With paint, use an acrylic or latex house paint and apply at least two coats.
