Sad words from Judy Garland
Welcome to the Friendship Quote of the Day!
Today's Quote:
Judy Garland
If I am a legend, then why am I so lonely?
Today's Inspiring Thought: Fans Aren't Friends
Not all of us will get to the level of fame that Judy Garland had, but there is a lesson in her quote that we can all learn from. To her, fame should have given her immunity from loneliness. In reality, it seemed to make her feel more lonely.
That's because fans don't make up personal relationships.
They are people who like what you do, not who you are. They can't like who you are because they don't know you on that kind of level.
This quote, while said years before social networking became available, relates very closely to how some people look at things like Facebook and Twitter. Numbers of Facebook "friends" or Twitter followers tend to give a false perception that you're popular, and what's more, that you have a lot of people in your life.
Of course, this couldn't be further from the truth. Facebook friends, especially those you only know online, aren't the same as having real life people there beside you. Make an effort to call up a friend and schedule a reoccurring friendship date. Use social networking as a way to reinforce the closeness you have in real life, not act as a substitute for it.
