    About

    • The Idaho Health Care Plan, also referred to as CHIP, provides no-cost or low-cost insurance plans for qualifying Idaho children. Included in the coverage are routine check-ups, immunizations, prescription drugs, x-rays, laboratory tests, hospital visits, dental, vision and more. Premium assistance of up to $100 per month is also available to assist with the cost of private insurance premiums.

    Program Qualifications

    • To qualify for assistance, children must be under 19 years of age and live in Idaho. The child must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident and also qualify within the family income guidelines.

    Income Guidelines

    • Income guidelines are based on family size and monthly income. The program is based on qualifying at a level of 185% of the federal poverty guidelines, which are published annually in February by the Department of Health and Human Services.

    Plan Options

    • There are two plan options for otherwise healthy children. The Basic Plan is an inclusive health insurance policy. It provides coverage for the majority of health care needs including well-visits. The other option to consider is the Children's Access Card program. This program allows the parent to participate in employee sponsored health plans, or purchase an individual policy. Premiums are reimbursed up to $100 per child with a $300 monthly family maximum. For children with more advanced health care needs, including developmental disability services and personal care services, an Enhanced Plan is also available.

    How to Apply

    • If your child meets the program qualifications, application materials can be obtained in one of three ways. First, applications are available online at the website for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. They are also available by calling the Idaho Care Line at 1-800-926-2588. Lastly, applications are available for pick up at all Health and Welfare offices throughout the state of Idaho.
