In times past, males and females lived lives that were more physically demanding, leading them to play roles in life that are much different from today.
The men were usually hunters, builders, and warriors, and they did everything they could to protect their families from any threats to their community.
Women, on the contrary, worked ever so diligently to bring up the children properly, keep everything nice and neat, and made sure that all was well inside the house.
Naturally, this virtually guaranteed that families frequently met for dinner, and they did so even if they were worn out and used up a lot of their energy, which burned off a lot of their extra calories.
However, this is not the case today.
These days, most people go to work and sit at their desk, staring at a computer monitor all day.
This makes their day completely devoid of any physical activity.
After work, they rush to their cars, waiting for them in the parking lot, and head home in their cars.
Due to this type of lifestyle, it is easy to understand why so many people become overweight over a relatively short period of time -- especially, considering the high fat, high calorie diets most people eat, without offsetting it with exercise.
Generally, when a person starts to gain weight and become overweight, most of the fat is stored in the belly area.
Because today's trends in lifestyle, we are gaining more weight and gaining belly fat because we are not allowing ourselves the opportunity for physical activity and exercise as past generations once did.
Even though there are many fitness centers all around -- some even free in many apartment complexes -- many people feel they do not have the time nor energy to take advantage of these facilities.
This is also understandable due to the high pressure, fast paced lifestyle in which we live, where many people are working more than 2 jobs to make ends meet -- some of us even go to school! When such people return home from a hectic day at work, the very thought of spending just 30 minutes at a fitness center is the furthest thing from their minds.
Not eating intelligently can also aid the weight gain process and cause belly fat to accumulate.
What is meant by eating intelligently? Well, it basically means that a lot of people just purchase foods, without any concern as to what the ingredients may be.
Because of this, they do not know how much harm -- or good, if any -- they are doing to their bodies.
