About.com Rating

The Bottom Line

The Premier Busy Buddy Tug-a-Jug Toy is a plastic dog toy designed to dispense treats as your dog plays with it.

Pros

  • Offers dogs fun and mental stimulation.
  • Can help prevent behavior problems, such as destructive chewing, by redirecting dog to something more appropriate.
  • Plastic jug part is nearly indestructible.
  • Comes in three different sizes, so works for a variety of dogs, no matter what size or breed.

    Cons

    • Can be too easy for many dogs to figure out, causing dogs to lose interest quickly.
    • The rope on the top of the jug can be chewed apart and ingested by your dog which can be hazardous.
    • It can be noisy if your dog is playing with the hard plastic toy on a wood or tile floor.

    Description

The Premier Tug-a-Jug is a hard plastic bottle shaped toy. The top of the bottle has a hard rubber ball with a rope through the opening. The bottom of the bottle can be easily unscrewed so you can fill the jug with kibble or dog treats. The design of the bottle allows a dog to move it around or tug at the rope in order to get the treats or food to fall out.

My Review – Premier Busy Buddy Tug-a-Jug Dog Toy

I'm a big fan of toys that offer dogs some mental stimulation, so I was excited to find the Premier Busy Buddy Tug-a-Jug toy. I liked the large size of the jug, and its unique way of dispensing the food. My plan was to put at least a portion, if not all, of my dogs' meals in there so they would really have to work for it.

Unfortunately, not all went as planned. Both my dogs figured out how to get to the food quickly, dispensing food everywhere. They lost interest fairly soon after that, leaving kibble scattered across my floor.

One of my dogs returned to it a little later. He's a big chewer, and became interested in the rope portion of this toy. He made short work of chewing pieces of it off. The rope part of this toy definitely didn't work for us.

My dogs are big chewers who are skilled at playing with treat dispensing toys, so this toy wasn't a big hit for us. Dogs who are more moderate chewers, however, may really enjoy the Tug-a-Jug. They might find this toy more interesting and challenging. Because of the rope toy, I recommend that all dogs be supervised when playing with the Tug-a-Jug.
