How to Paint Pictures of Birthday Cakes
- 1). Find a picture of the type of cake you want to paint. Look in clip art (See Resources,) coloring books, photographs, or magazines.
- 2). Print out the picture if you've chosen clip art or a digital photograph you want to use. Otherwise, if you are using a magazine or coloring book image, cut it out.
- 3). Take the image to a copy center and have it copied to a larger size. Commercial copiers can increase image sizes to double the original size. Make the cake image as large as you need it to be so you can trace it.
- 4). Place tracing paper on the copied image and trace around the cake with a mechanical pencil.
- 5). Place black transfer paper under the tracing paper with the traced outline you made. Place both of these pieces of paper on your paper, canvas, Bristol board or illustration board. Retrace the image onto your art material. The black transfer paper will create the image outline as you trace over the tracing paper image.
- 6). Outline the traced birthday cake with your paint. Slowly paint the rest of the birthday cake with the appropriate paint colors.
