How to Make Shower Favors
- 1). Fold the 8-by-3-inch piece of fabric in half to make a 4-by-3-inch rectangle. While the fabric choice is up to you, you should choose a breathable fabric like linen or burlap so that the fragrance can escape easily.
- 2). Press the fabric at the fold to make a crease. For delicate fabrics like linen, arrange an extra piece of fabric on top and iron on a delicate setting to protect it.
- 3). Center the lavender stencil on the outside of one half of the fabric rectangle. The stencil should be placed portrait-style, or centered, within the 4-inch section of fabric.
- 4). Fill in the flower detail with a small paintbrush and lavender or purple fabric paint, then fill in the leaves and stems with green fabric paint, if necessary.
- 5). Lay the fabric on a flat surface and let it dry completely.
- 6). Fold the fabric inward so that the flower painting is on the inside.
- 7). Use a whipstitch to sew both sides of the fabric closed with a sewing needle and thread to match your choice of fabric. To perform a whipstitch, insert the needle through the front of both pieces of fabric near their edges, then carry the needle over the top of the seam and insert it through the front about 1/16-inch from the previous stitch.
- 8). Flip the fabric right-side-out so the lavender painting faces out again.
- 9). Fill the sachet with fragrant lavender flowers, leaving at least 1/2 inch of fabric at the top; about 1/4 cup of flowers should be enough. If you want to boost the fragrance, you can mix one or two drops of lavender oil into the flowers, but be careful not to make them oily or they'll stain the fabric.
- 10
Turn the top section of fabric in and secure it with a straight pin. - 11
Close the sachet with a whipstitch for a flawless edge. - 12
Write labels on small pieces of cardstock and punch a hole in the top left-hand corner of each tag. - 13
Wrap the green organza ribbon around the middle of the sachet and slide the tag onto the ribbon. - 14
Tie the ribbon in a bow with the tag centered on the sachet, name-side up. The length of ribbon you actually need depends on how much you fill the sachet and how big you make the bow, but you can trim any excess ribbon from the bow's tails.
