How to Explain Flat TV Specifications
- 1). Look at what kind of flat-screen television it is. There are several different types of flat-screen TVs, including projection, plasma and LCD. Both plasma and LCD televisions possess the ability to hang from the wall, and are usually anywhere from a few inches thick down to less than one inch thick. All this information is stated on the box of the television.
- 2). Check out the resolution of the TV. Although you can find some standard-definition television with a 480 lines of horizontal resolution, you can find HD (high-definition) televisions with a resolution of up to 1080 lines of vertical resolution. The greater the resolution, the clearer the picture.
- 3). Look for the color-contrast ratio. This is displayed with the amount of colors the TV can produce next to a one. So, if the television can produce 10,000 different colors, it is written "10000:1." The higher the color-contrast ratio, the better.
- 4). Inspect the packaging for the refresh rate. Although most standard televisions (and lower-end high-definition televisions) have a refresh rate of 60 Hertz (Hz), you can currently (as of April 2010) purchase a television with a refresh rate of 240 Hertz. This provides a smoother-looking picture and reduces the blurry lines common with fast-moving images in movies and sporting events.
