How to Treat Severely Dry Scalp in Toddlers
- 1). Avoid washing your toddler's hair too often. For treating children's scalp, Dr. Jim of AskDrSears.com recommends washing the hair every five to seven days.
- 2). Wash your toddler's hair with gentle shampoo (preferably baby shampoo or moisturizing shampoo). Apply a quarter-sized dab of shampoo and gently rub into the hair and scalp.
- 3). Brush your toddler's scalp gently with a soft toothbrush. Take care to loosen any flakes or dirt. Rinse thoroughly.
- 4). Repeat the shampoo and brushing process again. Rinse completely.
- 5). Condition your toddler's hair and scalp. Use a quarter-sized dab of moisturizing conditioner, gently rubbing it into your toddler's hair and scalp. Leave in for approximately three minutes and rinse thoroughly.
- 6). Call your child's pediatrician if the severely dry scalp doesn't clear up. Dr. Jim recommends consulting a physician if you notice signs of infection or spreading rash.
