How to Make a Denim and Flannel Quilt
- 1). Cut 12-inch denim and flannel squares for the quilt. For a 60-inch-by-84-inch quilt, cut 17 squares from the flannel and 18 squares from the denim. Cut 17 squares of the same size from the lightweight, iron-on interfacing.
- 2). Lay the flannel squares with the right sides facing down, and lay one square of interfacing on top of each. Fuse the two layers together according to the interfacing instructions. Typically, you will use a hot iron on a steam setting to fuse the interfacing to the flannel.
- 3). Lay five squares across and seven squares down, starting with a denim square. Add a flannel square and then another denim square. Continue the pattern across. Begin the second row with a flannel square.
- 4). Sew a whipstitch, either by hand or machine, between the denim and flannel squares to connect each square to the quilt.
- 5). Cut four pieces of the denim binding tape for the quilt edges. Cut one piece for each side of the quilt, and slide the edge of the quilt between the folds of the tape. Sew a running stitch through all of the layers to join the tape to the quilt and create finished edges.
