How to Set the Default Windows Screen Saver
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu button to open the Start menu.
- 2). Type "%systemroot%\System32" and press "Enter." Windows Explorer will open and display the folder containing your screen saver files, which all have an extension of ".scr."
- 3). Write down the name of the screensaver that you want to use as the default. For example, if you want to use one named "lakes.scr," write that value down for later.
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu button and type "gpedit.msc" in the search box. Press "Enter." The Group Policy editor will open.
- 2). Double-click the "Administrative Settings" folder on the right side of the editor.
- 3). Double-click "Control Panel" and then double-click "Display." The "Screen Saver Executable Name Properties" window will open.
- 4). Locate "Screen Saver executable name" and double-click it. Click "Enabled."
- 5). Enter the name of the screen saver that you wrote down in the previous section.
- 6). Click "Apply" and then click "OK." Click "File" and select "Exit" to close the Group Policy Editor.
