How to Make a Basket With a Wooden Lid
- 1). Clear off a workspace that is dry and clear of any obstructions. Put on your safety goggles as your will be working with a power drill on a number of the steps. Put on your work gloves to avoid splinters from the wood. Place a 5-inch-by5-inch-by-1-inch wooden square on the work surface. This square is going to be a side of the basket.
- 2). Place another wooden square onto the side of the other square and screw in a wood screw with the power drill. The screw should be 1 inch from the left side of the square and go into the small side of the other square. Screw in another screw 1 inch from the right side of the square. Repeat this process with the other two squares until you have a box.
- 3). Place a wood square on top of the box and screw in one screw at each corner. The screw goes through the square to affix itself to the rim of the box. Flip the box over so that the wood square you just attached is now a bottom of the box. Screw in a metal hinge on the side facing you, 1 inch from the right side. Screw in another metal hinge 1 inch from the left side.
- 4). Flip the hinges up so that they lay flush with the top rim of the basket. Place the last wood square on top of the hinge flange and then rotate up so that the bottom of the lid has the hinge flange on it. Screw the hinge flanges onto the bottom of the lid with a power drill. Use a wood file to smooth down any rough edges.
