Ideas for 1970s Clothing
- Hot Pants and Go-Go Boots.
Different lengths of skirts were fashionable in the 1970s, from ankle-length maxis, to very short minis to even shorter micros. Very short shorts called hot pants were also popular and frequently worn with go-go boots. Ethnic styles had become popular in the hippie movement of the 1960s and continued to influence women's fashion with peasant-style blouses and dresses that were full with gathered necklines and usually featured embroidery or tunics. Working women also popularized form-fitting trouser suits or pantsuits. Shiny fabrics that reflected lights in discos (satin, lame, spandex) became popular as well. - Kaftan
Men began to dress more casually, eschewing jackets and ties for tunics, open-collared shirts showing off gold medallions on heavy chains and more casual shirts with vests. Kaftans were popular with men and women for lounging. In the discos, men were wearing three-piece suits in light and bright colors. - Platform Shoes
Styles that could be worn by either men or women, called unisex, became popular in the 1970s. Men and women wore pants that flared out at the bottom called bellbottoms. Long kaftans and ponchos represented ethnic looks. Platform shoes with very thick soles were made popular by the disco look. Many men and women wore their hair long or in Afros.
