How to Treat Redness From Hibiclens

32
    • 1). Gauge the severity of the redness. Hibiclens can cause potentially dangerous allergic reactions in some patients. The symptoms of this type of reaction are redness, hives, swelling and difficulty breathing. Don't attempt to treat these symptoms at home; seek medical attention.

    • 2). Stop applying further Hibiclens to the affected area. This prevents further irritation from developing.

    • 3). Apply a cold compress to the area to relieve itching. Soak a sterile disposable towel or clean cloth in cold water, and then apply to the affected area. Repeat as necessary.

    • 4). Take an antihistamine medication, such as Benadryl. This curbs the body's reaction to the Hibiclens and allows swelling and itching to subside.

    • 5). Speak to a doctor if the redness doesn't subside on its own. Prescription medication can treat continued redness from Hibiclens.
