Toyota Buy Back Information
- In 2008, Toyota announced that it would extend the warranty to 15 years and unlimited miles on Toyota Tacoma truck frames produced from 1995 to 2000. If, under inspection, the frames were rusted, the company offered to either pay for repairs or buy back the vehicle at 1.5 times the suggested "excellent condition" price on Kelley Blue Book. This buy back offer affected approximately 813,000 trucks.
- In 2009 and 2010, Toyota issued massive recalls that affected millions of vehicles and 19 different models from 1998 to 2010. Potential problems included malfunctioning accelerators, spare tires and brake cylinders. The company offered pay for all related repairs but never launched a buy back program.
- Some consumers may have been confused because individual Toyota dealers can buy back vehicles. This is done a on a case-by-case basis, however, as dealers make decisions about how to handle dissatisfied customers at their own discretion.
