How to Use a Fish Finder Screen Image
- 1). Read the screen to determine the size of a school of fish. The screen will display multiple fish for a large school, and very few fish for a small school. Read the depth of the school to determine the proper depth for your lure or bait.
- 2). Target smaller schools of fish for catching trophies. Larger fish will often travel alone or in a small school.
- 3). Read the landscape that the fish finder displays. Look for structure in the landscape. Also look for depth-change areas. Fish will feed around structure, and use depth-change areas to escape predators.
- 4). Mark GPS way-points on advanced fish finders. Mark areas with structure that will consistently hold fish. Mark the time of year and time of day for each way-point. This will be a valuable reference point for future fishing.
- 5). Use the temperature reading to your advantage. The temperature reading is taken at a depth close to the surface. Determine the ideal temperature for the species being targeted. Fish deeper for species comfortable at a temperature colder than your reading.
