Locate your employer's human resources office. Visiting your employer's human resources office is the best place to start when you want to report an EEO violation. Most employers have an on-site human resources office. The human resources staff will be able to assist you in filing a complaint. If your employer does not have an on-site human resources office, locate your employer's human resources website or local telephone number. Informing your immediate supervisor of the EEO violation is also recommended.

Visit your employer's human resources office or locate the appropriate telephone number and explain to the human resources staff what you believe to be the EEO violation. Explain what happened, date of the violation, who was present, what you heard, what you saw, what you said, and whether the conduct was directed at you or someone else. Also give your HR office a short description of the events you believe were discriminatory (for example, you were fired, demoted, harassed). Finally it is also good to tell your HR office the reason why you believe you were discriminated against (for example, because of your race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information)

Follow up on your complaint of an EEO violation. Stay in frequent contact with your HR office after you file your report to monitor the progress of the investigation. Once an investigation is complete, the findings may state that there was no evidence found of an EEO violation. Remember, you have the right to file a report of an EEO violation with your State EEO agency or the United States EEOC to protect your rights at any time, so long as it is within a certain time frame. Check with the EEOC or your State EEO agency to be sure.
