Harare Jazz Festival [April 15 - 17, 2011 (annual)]

The Harare Jazz Festival is a one day festival that took place for the first time in 2009 in Harare. The program features renowned African jazz artists who will also take part in jazz workshops a day prior to the festival. The festival proceeds benefit a charity organization and as part of its community outreach program, the festival has invited high school students to enjoy the festival experience for free.

Harare International Festival of the Arts [26 April - 1 May 2011 (annual)]

The Harare International Festival of the Arts annually presents a showcase of local, regional and international performing and visual arts. HIFA will stage a 6 day annual festival and workshop programme that showcases the very best of local, regional and international arts and culture in a comprehensive festival programme of theatre, dance, music, circus, street performance, spoken word, visual arts. HIFA has come to be seen as an important symbol of something positive about Zimbabwe, unifying socially and culturally disparate groups of Zimbabweans at a time of ideological conflict and political uncertainty bringing huge audiences together to celebrate something positive – the healing and constructive capacity of the arts.

Zimbabwe International Book Fair [Jul 2011 (annual)]

The Zimbabwe International Book Fair held at Harare Gardens is sub-Saharan Africa's leading showcase for the literary arts. The event presents a programme of talks and up to 100 participating publishers display a selection of Africa's latest titles.

Zimbabwe International Film Festival [Aug - Sep 2011 (annual)]

The ZIFF Trust is a non-profit Trust registered with the Zimbabwe National Arts Council, involved in the development of film in Zimbabwe and the Southern Africa region. The ZIFF Trust is built on a philosophy of developing trust, teamwork, relationships and creative collaboration for the benefit of film and cultural identity in Zimbabwe and the region. Over the past seven years the ZIFF Trust has established itself as a reputable film institution in the region. Two years ago, with funding from HIVOS, the Trust was enabled to purchase a property in Harare, which is now the permanent home of the Trust from which its 4 primary projects operate. These are:
  • The Short Film Project (SFP) an initiative that identifies aspiring and established filmmakers with stories to tell, to develop their skills through the production of short films that are screened in competition at the annual film festival.
  • The Film Forum (FF) the training and development arm of the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust.
  • Outreach2Educate (O2E) incorporates programmes that aim to build larger audiences, with the vision of establishing a film culture in Zimbabwe, as well as initiatives that promote visual literacy among Zimbabweans.
  • Zimbabwe International Film Festival (ZIFF) the annual two-week film festival; a non-political platform that showcases feature films, short films, documentaries and hosts a number of workshops, as well as a variety of exciting events that feature film and other artistic genres.

Jacaranda Festival Oct 2011 (annual)

Once a beauty contest, the reborn Jacaranda Festival celebrates Harare's magnificent jacaranda trees as part of a rebranding project for the city. Art displays, a carnival and children's activities make up the event, which also raises funds for charity organizations.
