How to Stream a Webcam Online
- 1). Connect the webcam your computer; you may need to download a driver if the camera has never been connected before. Check the webcam's packaging for the label "Plug-and-Play"; these webcams do not require drivers. Otherwise, insert the driver disc that came with the webcam into your computer's disc drive, or visit the manufacturer's website and download the appropriate driver from the "Support" section. Follow the installation prompts that appear to install the driver, then reboot your computer if prompted. You may need to unplug and reconnect the webcam after the driver is installed.
- 2). Select an online webcam streaming service, such as Justin TV (justin.tv) or Ustream TV (ustream.tv). These services allow anyone will a webcam to stream video online for free. Create an account with the service you choose by selecting "Register" or "Create Account." Enter the required information, then submit the form. You may need to verify the account by clicking a link within a verification email sent to your inbox.
- 3). Log into your account. Click the "Channel" tab on Justin TV or "Create a Show" on Ustream TV. A window will appear stating that the streaming service wants to access your webcam; click "Allow." Enter the information and other parameters for your channel, such as mature content warnings, restrictions and channel name. Both services offer a "Record" button, which will record your live webcam stream for users to watch after the stream has ended.
- 4). Click the "Broadcast" button to begin streaming.
