How to Comb Out The Mats in Your Dogs Fur

31
    • 1). Sit on the floor and have your dog sit or lay in front of you. You may need a second person to hold the dog if he/she is bad about staying put. Chances are, if your dog has mats in his fur, he will not want to be brushed, as it hurts to brush thick hair, let alone comb out the mats.

    • 2). Once your dog is still, find the worst mats first and spray them with the detangling spray.

    • 3). Either use the de-matting brush or a comb to try and comb out the mat, but make sure you are VERY gentle because even the slightest pain can make a dog nervous and want you to stop immediately.

    • 4). You can use scissors to cut into the mat to loosen it up, and then continue to brush/comb it out. Continue to spray the detangling spray on the mat to make combing it as easy as possible.

    • 5). This may seem like a simple task if your dog is well behaved, but if your dog is as hyper as mine, keeping him still longer than 10 minutes is a miracle. You may only be able to comb out one or two mats before your dog gets anxious. Don't force him to sit through a full-body detangling. If he get antsy and wants to run and play, give him a break and continue later, or even the next day if the mats aren't severe.

    • 6). To avoid severe mats, make sure you brush your dog on a regular basis. I myself am not good about brushing my bich-poo every day like I should, which is why I've had to become so good at removing mats!
