Thank You Card Wording for Wedding Gifts

22
In the age of emails, texts, and online communication, it may seem out-dated to send handwritten notes to your wedding guests.
However, according to etiquette, it is customary (and just plain nice) to send a handwritten thank you note for each wedding gift that you receive.
Many couples delay writing their thank you notes because they are unsure of what to say.
When you know the basic topics to include in a thank you note, writing them will be quick, easy, and even enjoyable.
What do you need to write thank you cards? Before you sit down to write thank you cards, there are a few things that you will need.
First, you should get some stationary that you will be proud to send to your family and friends.
You can find thank you cards at retail stores, specialty stationary shops, or even online.
Many couples choose to use thank you notes that match the colors or theme of their wedding day.
Another popular option is to have your thank you cards monogrammed with your new married initials.
Once you have stationary, you will also need a list of your wedding guests along with the gifts that they gave.
When opening gifts, use a copy of your guest list to record the items given beside the giver's name.
If possible, try to use a guest list that includes mailing address.
It will make things easier when addressing your thank you cards.
You will also need an ink pen.
Traditionally, black or blue ink pens are the best for writing handwritten thank you cards.
Writing handwritten notes is time-consuming.
Make it more enjoyable for yourself by setting up a workstation.
Gather your supplies and have a favorite TV show or music playing in the background.
What should you include in your thank you cards? There are three basic points you should include with each thank you note that you send.
1 - Include the name of the gift-giver.
Depending on your relationship, address the gift-giver by either their first or last names.
2 - Include a basic description of the gift you received and how you plan to use it.
This sentence will be the most important topic of your thank you note.
Basically you want to acknowledge the exact gift that you received and say something nice about it.
For example you could say, "Thank you for the serving platter.
We can't wait to use it for our next party! Hope you can come!" If you received a cash gift or gift card, acknowledge the gift but do not include the exact amount.
3 - Include gratitude from both you and your spouse.
Only one of you will actually write the thank you note.
However, you need to include words phrases like "we" and "[Spouse's Name] and I" to show that both of you are thankful for the gift.
Sign the note using both of your names.
You could also include a sentence acknowledging whether or not the gift-giver attended your wedding.
Either thank them for coming and being there, or express that you missed seeing them.
Once you write a few thank you cards you will see that it's an easy formula that is duplicated quickly.
If you are still having a hard time writing your thank you notes, there are online resources for wording samples you can use to make the process even easier.
Even if you can just write a few notes a day, take the time to send a handwritten expression of thanks to your wedding guests.
You won't regret it.
