How to Lay Porcelain Floor Tile With Proboard
- 1). Measure the width of the floor with a tape measure. Transfer the measurements to the Proboard and make a mark where it will need to be cut with a felt tip marker.
- 2). Cut the Proboard to the required width with the wet saw.
- 3). Locate the floor joists by using a stud finder. Mark the location of each floor joist with a chalk line.
- 4). Lay the first section of Proboard in place and secure it with screws using the power drill. The white dots on each section of Proboard indicate the placement of the screws.
- 5). Connect each subsequent piece of Proboard together and screw them to the floor.
- 6). Apply a mortar mix to the Proboard with the trowel. The mortar mix is used to fill in the grooves or channels of the Proboard. The mortar should be level with the ribs on the Proboard. Wait 24 hours for the mortar mix to dry.
- 7). Apply thinset over the top of the Proboard in a small area. Place the thinset on the Probaord with the trowel. Use the notched side of the trowel to create grooves in the thinset.
- 8). Apply thinset to the back of the porcelain tile. Set the first porcelain tile in place, on the Proboard, and press down to adhere it to the thinset.
- 9). Continue to apply thinset to the Proboard and lay the tiles until you have covered the floor. Place tile spacers in-between each tile for the grout.
- 10
Wait for the thinset to harden and then grout the tiles to complete the project. Use the grout float to apply the grout in-between the joints of the tile. Wait at least 12 hours for the grout to completely dry.
