Dampen a dusting cloth. Ensure that the cloth isn't dripping wet, just damp. This helps the cloth pick up dust that has accumulated rather than just moving it into a pile. Ring the cloth out to remove any excess water. Ensure that your dusting cloth is made from a soft, smooth material such as cotton. A coarse cloth can leave scratches on your piano's surface.

Wipe the keys with the damp cloth. Make sure you don't pick up any small pieces of debris as you wipe, because these can scratch the keys if dragged across the surface; shake the cloth to free it of debris if you pick some up. Use long, straight movements when cleaning the keys, as circular movements can clear visible smear marks. If you need to, you can add some mild soap, but never use chemical cleaners or solvents as these can damage the baby grand.

Run a dry duster over the keys after you've cleaned with a damp cloth. This keeps the surface dry, and prevents warping or other undesirable results. Clean the wood of the piano in the same fashion: damp cloth and then dry cloth. Follow the grain of the wood to reduce the appearance of smears or marks from cleaning.

Wrap the damp cloth around the soundboard-steel tool to prepare to clean the interior of the piano. The soundboard-steel tool is a large, flexible metal stick with a loop at the top. Put the end of the cloth through the loop and wrap the remainder around the metal shaft.

Open the piano and dust the interior. You can use the tool to get underneath the plate (accessible through the holes in its surface) and underneath the strings. This removes any built-up dust in the hard to reach places on the baby grand.

Replace the damp cloth with a dry one after you've cleaned out the interior. Dry all the areas you've been over with your damp duster. After this has been completed, your baby grand will be free of dust.
