The Do"s and Don"ts of Twitter Marketing

112
When you are getting ready to start promoting your business on Twitter there are some things that you will want to keep in mind.
Today we are going to review some of the do's and dont's of Twitter marketing.
Do's:
  • Build your following: One of the ways that you can start to build your following is to first find people that are in the same target market that you are trying to reach.
For example if your business is a clothing store in San Diego, you will want to look for other clothing stores in San Diego and follow some of their followers.
Why would you want to follow their followers? You would want to do this because the people that are following the other clothing store are people that are interested in purchasing clothing? Does this make sense?
  • Provide valuable content: Continuing using the same example, if you own a clothing store in San Diego, you will want to talk about topics related to clothing.
What you don't want to do is just tell your followers to buy from your store.
You want to talk to them about the clothing, the designers, any events that your company is holding.
When you are providing valuable content you will start to gain new followers to your Twitter account.
  • Keep in contact: If you Tweet once a week this is not effective, the goal for you would be to tweet at the minimum of once per day.
Dont's:
  • Over Sell: When you try too hard to oversell you are going to come across as desperate and you will quickly lose your following.
It is important that you take the time to provide valuable content as I mentioned in the do's section.
  • Build your following randomly: If you follow random Twitter accounts what will happen is you will attract random twitter followers.
If you want to ensure that you are reaching a targeted audience or a targeted market it is important for you to understand that you will want to follow twitter users that are in your target market.
This way, when other twitter users see who you are following they will want to follow you based on who you are following.
  • Lack of communication: If you are just posting content once a week or once a month, you are not using this account the way you should be using it and you are losing out on the benefits of building your business with your twitter account.
You now have a good baseline for what you should do, and what you should not do when it comes to building your business using Twitter.
