The Bottom Line

For about $50 more than the classic Polly high chair, the updated Chicco Polly Magic high chair offers a sleek, modern look, a storage basket beneath the seat, and an infant insert that helps fits tiny babies if you want to use the high chair for bottle feeding. The Polly Magic high chair retains the ultra-slim fold and multiple recline and height adjustments of the original Polly, too.

Overall, this is a luxurious and easy-to-use high chair that will accommodate your child from birth through toddler years. At about $180, the Polly Magic falls into the middle of the high chair price range.

Guide Review - Chicco Polly Magic High Chair Review

Since we aren't using a high chair regularly at my house these days, I love that you can fold the Chicco Polly Magic high chair flat for storage. It's easy to stash in a closet or in the corner of a room because it's less than 10 inches front to back when folded.

I found that this high chair was easy enough to fold up that you could even put it away fully every day if you wanted to. Just squeeze the triggers on both sides of the frame to fold, and be sure the caster wheels are locked so the whole thing doesn't roll away when you lean it against the wall. The only thing missing for storage is a place to put the tray. You'll need to store it separately.

When in use, the Chicco Polly Magic high chair has several convenience features that make it work well for babies of all ages. You can adjust the height to six different positions so it's comfy for a parent doing the spoon-feeding, or to allow baby to be at table height with the family. The recline is also adjustable to three positions, including a very flat newborn position that can be used for bottle feeding or just to allow baby to be close while mom or dad are having a meal. The removable infant pad helps smaller babies fit well into this high chair.

As your baby grows, you can move the harness into higher slots, too. The harness can be tightened or loosened by feeding it through plastic pieces on either side. There are strap covers on the harness, and they may help keep food off the webbing, as well as adding some comfort for baby. These cover aren't removable, though, unless you remove the whole harness and slip them off. It would be easier to clean them if they could be removed quickly during meal cleanup.

The foot rest can be moved to several angles, including flat to prop baby's legs up straight. The height of the foot rest can also be adjusted. The padding extends down over the foot rest, so food doesn't get into the adjustment slots.

Just like the classic Polly high chair, the Polly Magic has the t-post (the piece that keeps baby from sliding under the tray) attached to the tray itself. This means the tray does not lay flat on a table or shelf. The tray insert does a good job of containing messes, and it's fairly easy to remove and replace, so you shouldn't have to take off the whole tray to get rid of a mess before baby can paint with it. I would prefer the convenience of being able to lay the whole tray on the table, though. I do like that the tray is very easy to adjust and remove with one hand.

The tray insert won't fit in most dishwashers, but it's easy enough to lay in the sink and wipe down. The tray itself is simple to wipe off, too. One of my complaints about the original Polly high chair was that there were a lot of crevices close to baby where food could get stuck. I think the Polly Magic has much improved on that. The joints that allow the arms to fold up may trap some food, but the majority of the pad, tray and arms are smooth and easily wiped clean.
