How to Copy Old iPhone 3 Settings to an iPhone 4
- 1). Download and install the latest version of iTunes on your computer (see Resources).
- 2). Use your iPhone's charging/sync cable to connect it to your computer. Make sure it's the iPhone 3G/S that has the settings and data you want to backup. Start iTunes, click the iPhone icon in the left sidebar and click "Sync" to begin the backup process. Depending on your settings, iTunes may automatically backup your phone upon connection.
- 3). Use the same computer and connect your new iPhone 4 in the same manner as the iPhone 3G/S. iTunes will ask whether you want to restore from a backup or set it up as new phone. Choose "restore from backup," select the most recent iPhone backup and wait for the backup process to complete and your iPhone 4 to restart.
- 4). Select the iPhone entry in iTunes and sync the Music and Photos you want on your device by clicking "Apply." While settings and other data has been saved, the iPhone backup saves space by not including photos and music, so they must be re-synced. Music and photos were synced back to your computer, however, when you made the initial backup.
