How to Go Green With the Items You Buy

13
    • 1). Quit buying bottled water. Use refillable bottles for your drinking water and you'll not only reduce the impact of plastic bottles on the environment, you'll save money as well.

    • 2). Shop for second-hand rather than new products whenever possible. For example, purchase clothing, books and other goods at second-hand stores.

    • 3). Buy local produce. This will help limit the gas emissions involved in shipping produce to your area.

    • 4). Share items with friends, family and neighbors. Instead of buying a new item, such as a drill, saw or other power tool, share these items and borrow others that you need.

    • 5). Inspect the packaging used for items you buy. Are you paying for the packaging or the item itself? Individually wrapped, single-serving items require a lot of packaging, but family-size or larger options need a lot less. Create your own single-serving packaging with reusable containers to save money and decrease the amount of waste from your purchases.
