Yacht clubs are a way for boating and yacht enthusiasts to socialize and discuss issues affecting yacht culture and the community. In New York, where so many people are surrounded by water, yachting and yacht clubs are a popular hobby. While most hold offices in the city there are yacht clubs in all areas of the state. For a full list of yacht clubs in the state, see resources. - The New York Yacht Club is the oldest yacht club in New York, founded in 1844 by John Cox Stevens. It is the largest yacht club in New York state and hosts the most popular boating activities. Each year the club puts on multiple boat and yacht races and social cruising outings for members. There are two clubhouses: one in New York City and another in Rhode Island. Both have large ballrooms and guest bedrooms. In 2010 there were 3,200 members with 54% being yacht owners. nyyc.org - Manhattan Yacht Club was founded in 1987. An inclusive club, the requirements for joining are a love for sailing and payment of the membership dues. As of 2010, the initiation fee was $250 with regular dues of $1,340 and yacht owner dues of $490. "Skipper privileges" are $800 in addition to regular dues. Members under the age of 25 or over the age of 65 receive a discount of half off. Members benefits include organized racing, education, cruising, access to the clubhouse and use of the club fleet.

myc.org/ - The Hugeunot Yacht Club was founded in 1894 in New Rochelle. Members in the club enjoy social boating, racing, frostbiting and fishing. The club places a strong emphasis on socializing, so there is a social event every month in the official clubhouse. In 2010 the club dues were $2,350 annually not including additional fees for initiation, docking and restaurant and bar usage.

huguenotyc.com - Founded in 1903, Babylon Yacht Club promotes members' proficient handling of yachts and social bonding through recreation. Located in Babylon, the yacht club includes both a boatyard and a clubhouse. The clubhouse has rooms for guests to sleep in as well as a pool and dining hall. Admissions are based upon sponsorship.
