Hi. I'm Bre, owner of Simply Bre's Floral. And I'm going to show you how to press flowers. Today we will be working with roses. So, today we're going to go ahead and working with pressing flowers, typically roses, which aren't necessarily the easiest and I do recommend not necessarily beginners having to press them. I prefer maybe to drying them naturally. But for this instance we're going to go ahead and cut off every bit of green, going to pull out all these little stems. And now we're going to go ahead and actually slice this rose head in half. Taking your sheers starting from the heart or budded end, we're just going to slice directly in between. Make sure you keep your hand on the rose so you don't lose it. Now, once you do that we're going to go ahead and place that flat side down, removing any damaged petals that may have gotten cut up during this cut. OK. So, we're going to need actually a very large heavy book, the heaviest book that you can find and actually a few extra books as well. So, we're going to open it up toward the back of the pages, just to ensure that the majority of the weight is to the top of the book. Open that up we're actually going to place the newspaper down inside. It just so happens that this book here has a natural newspaper page to it, so that actually will help to suck out any moisture inside. Then line your book there. And we're actually going to throw in two pieces of just regular old binder paper or printer paper. And then we are going to take our half of rose heads and we are going to lay them in. I suggest evenly spacing them out apart just so they don't tough once they've been pressed. And now we're going to go ahead and close this book down on top, keeping our papers aligned so everybody stays covered. Going to move this one just a little bit inside so it gets the maximum, the maximum weight of the book. So, now that we have closed that, we're going to go ahead and add our other heavier books, making sure the weight is evenly distributed across. And there you have the beginnings of pressing your roses. You want to go ahead and leave these books all closed up. If you can add more weight to this as time goes on, as moisture starts to dry out from these flowers, you'll get a very nice even press. And this has been how to press flowers, specifically roses.
