The Many Offerings of Basque Country
Basque Country is a beautiful land comprising 3 provinces: Alava, Guipuzcoa and Vizcaya. Their capitals are Vitoria-Gasteiz, San Sebastian and Bilbao respectively. Basque Country is fondly known as Baskland; it offers many colorful and diverse cultures with its own Euskera language. However, Basque Country is one of Spain's most industrialized regions although the many natural parks and landscapes have been conserved. Basque Country is a favorite for many activities such as hiking, riding and mountain sports.
City Offerings
There are many beautiful and developed cities in Basque Country. This includes San Sebastian which is a renowned aristocratic beach resort since the 19th century. It has a great reputation which offers exclusivity to the more affluent groups of society regardless of origin. Bilbao is the largest city in Basque Country with an important economic and industrial purpose. However, there are many historical monuments which have been conserved such as the exquisite historic quarter, astounding Gothic cathedral and its modern 1997 Guggenheim Museum that sports a glass fa§ade with lime stones and titanium. This museum is an astounding 20th century avant-garde architecture.
Bilbao also sports a popular square called €La Plaza€ which is an indoor market hall; it is the largest of its kind in Europe that was built only in 1929.
