Zebco Reel Maintenance Directions
- 1). Mix a solution of mild detergent and water in a bowl or container. Dip a clean rag in the solution and wipe down the exterior of the Zebco reel. Pay attention to the line opening in the spool cover, the handle and the spool release button. Although Zebco reels minimize areas where dirt and debris can collect, these areas can develop deposits.
- 2). Remove stubborn or heavy deposits of algae, dirt or other debris with a soft bristle brush. An old toothbrush, for example, makes a good cleaning brush as the bristles are strong enough to loosen debris but will not harm the finish on the reel.
- 3). Wipe the detergent solution and any loosened dirt or debris away with water or a damp rag. Dry the reel thoroughly with a soft cloth.
- 4). Open the spool cover by turning it slightly to the left and pulling straight out. Inspect the inside of the spool cover, the spool housing and the line for signs of dirt or debris. Remove any buildups with a soapy rag and brush if necessary and rinse clean. Dry the spool housing and inside of the spool cover with a dry cloth.
- 5). Apply a few drops of oil to the base of the reel handle. Use a quality reel oil keeping in mind that typically a few drops goes a long way. Apply a few drops of oil to a rag and wipe down the entire surface of the reel. This will help displace any moisture and provide a protective barrier against dust, rust and corrosion.
