Care home in Felixstowe getting all flower powered

A major Felixstowe care home is hoping to win top prizes in a local floral competition for the fifth year running.

Mill Lane care home Felixstowe, which is owned and managed by leading East Anglian care provider Healthcare Homes, has won prizes in the ‘Felixstowe in Flower' competition for the past four years.  Despite ongoing extensive expansion work to add new bedrooms, an office and conservatory, the home will be entering the competition again this year.

Administrator Marilyn Wright, who co-ordinates the Felixstowe care homes competition entry, said: "We have designed a spectacular floral display for our front balcony, which we hope will secure us a top prize.

"It looks absolutely amazing and we are very confident that it will impress the judges."

Residents at the care home in Felixstowe's Garrison Laneare encouraged to design and plant the floral displays which this year have a pink, blue and purple theme and include numerous pots and window boxes. One of the green-fingered residents is 88-year-old John Davies who recently celebrated 65 years of marriage with his wife Gwen, who is also a resident at the home.

Healthcare Homes Chief Executive, Richard Clough, said: "The residents and staff ofMill Lanehave been fantastic during all the building work and are already enjoying the benefits.  Thanks to their efforts, the floral displays look fantastic this year and a prize would be well deserved."

Mill Lane is one of 23 homes run by Healthcare Homes, which also manages Manorcourt Homecare and daycare centres throughoutEast Anglia.  It has a rating of ‘Good' from the Care Quality Commission, the independent inspection body of health and social care in England. 

Another residential care home in Felixstowe, run by Healthcare Homes is Meynell House, which is onHigh Road East. Formerly Felixstowe College, the Victorian building has been refurbished to retain its original features. It's location in the centre of the seaside town makes getting to the beach easy for residents who see being out and about a major part of their lives.
