You also need to get other people under you, making them distributors and getting a percentage of their sales.
If you've tried this route, you've probably made some home parties for your friends & family.
Your friends & family probably felt obligated to buy, so they purchased something you were selling.
Don't get me wrong, some people do want the product you are selling, but most buy because they feel obligated to.
There's a minimum amount you need to buy every month, and you need to sell that minimum; otherwise you stay stuck with the product.
Believe me, I have tried lots of things that mothers who work from home can do.
Amongst other ventures, I tried network marketing.
It didn't work for me.
I hated trying to convince my friends & family to buy things they didn't really need.
I also did not have luck finding good people to put "under" me.
So, I started looking online for an alternative.
This is what I found: something called affiliate marketing.
Instead of having a product and finding a customer for it, you find what people are already looking for and give it to them, making a commission in the process.
You don't have to chase people, asking them to buy whatever it is that you're selling.
