How to Potty Train Bichon Puppies
- 1). Select a quiet area to place your crate, if you choose to crate train. Crate training is probably the most effective and easiest way to teach your Bichon puppy to potty outside. Because he won't want to eliminate where he sleeps, he will likely wait until he is outside of the crate to go to the bathroom.
- 2). Set specific times during the day to take your puppy outside. Puppies usually need to relieve themselves when they wake up, after they eat, and immediately after they leave their crates. Establishing a routine with him should make potty training go a lot smoother.
- 3). Use the same door to exit your home each time you take your puppy out and go to the same spot to eliminate. This repetition should help your puppy understand what he is supposed to do when he leaves the house and goes to the spot. Give him treats and affection immediately upon eliminating. This will encourage him to keep up the good work. Consistency is key.
- 4). Play with your puppy following a successful training session. This will reward him for going potty outside and can be used as an incentive to make your puppy go the bathroom quickly. However, if you do this and your puppy later wants to skip the potty training and go right to play, schedule a different time for fun and games.
