How to Perform Guided Imagery

8
    • 1). Sit in a comfortable chair and cover yourself with the blanket, if preferred.

    • 2). Relax your mind and clear away any thoughts. Breathe in deeply through your nose and exhale through your mouth. As you do your breathing, picture yourself descending a staircase, getting more relaxed with each step.

    • 3). When you have successfully removed all intruding thoughts from your head and feel relaxed, start to picture yourself in a favorite scenic place. This could be a beach, the woods or even a fantastical place that exists only in your mind.

    • 4). Once comfortable in your place, slowly start to direct your mind toward the problem you want to fix. This can be an ailment, a work or relationship problem, a physical pain or something else.

    • 5). Use an image that helps you in fixing the problem. For example, you can picture a soft feather caressing away your headache until it's gone and at the end you see yourself without a headache. For serious ailments, such as cancer, you can picture little fighting beings kicking away the cancer cells as your healthy ones get plump and take over.

    • 6). Stay in your place imagining your ailment being cured or problem being solved for at least 15 minutes. If you just want stress release or to relax, simply stay in your imagined scene. Picture yourself happy and relaxed and just enjoy the moment.
