How to Make a Rubbing Device for Block Printing
- 1). Sand the back of a large, circular wooden spoon with a medium-grit sandpaper until any varnish or oil has been removed, and the surface is slightly rough.
- 2). Place the wooden spoon on top of a piece of craft felt. Using a permanent marker, trace the outline of the head of the spoon onto the felt.
- 3). Cut out the felt with a pair of scissors, following your outline.
- 4). Apply a thin layer of acid-free contact cement to the back of the spoon and to one side of the felt cutout. Allow the cement to dry for 15 minutes.
- 5). Press the cement-side of the felt firmly against the cement-side of the spoon, adhering the felt in place.
- 6). Use the felted end of the spoon when printing to rub dye from the block into the blank paper.
