How to Get Rid of the Dead Rat Smell in the Oven Vent
- 1). Remove the dead rat from the vent system. There is no way of removing the odor if the body is still present and decomposing. If the dead rat is deep in the vent system, you may need professional assistance to remove it without causing damage.
- 2). Spray as much of the oven vent as possible with white vinegar from a spray bottle. It acts as a deodorizer that helps eliminate smells. The vinegar scent disappears on its own.
- 3). Sprinkle baking soda into the oven vent to act as an additional odor absorber. Baking soda is often used in freezers because of its odor-removing properties.
- 4). Place a fan near the oven vent and put it on high. This increases airflow through the vent system and helps flush out the odor at a faster rate.
- 5). Boil white vinegar in a small pot and then place it into the vent overnight. The vinegar steam works much like the vinegar spray, except the steam travels further through the vent system before it condenses.
- 6). Repeat all of these steps until the odor is completely gone.
