Did you know that there are certain drugs that can cause you diabetes, if not worsen it? The common hormones that could cause diabetes are cortisol and thyroid hormone.
However there are many more drug types that could cause diabetes.
You should know of them before you mistakenly consume them in future.
Truth to be told, you have to be careful because doctors sometimes forget about them too.
Dilantin Dilantin is a drug that is originally used for controlling seizures.
But studies have shown that it could potentially interfere with the release of insulin.
If insulin production is affected, then blood glucose level will increase.
But dilantin can be used whereby the high blood glucose problem is managed by other drugs.
Pentamidine Usually, people with 'AIDS' or Acquired immune deficiency syndrome will take them.
Pentamidine is used to treat an infection that comes with 'AIDS'.
Pentamidine will also destroy beta cells in the pancreas.
This is bad because beta cells are responsible for producing insulin.
If this drug has to be taken by the patient, then the lack of insulin has to be compensated by injecting insulin into the body.
Nicotinic acid This drug is used for treating people with high cholesterol levels.
In the past, nicotinic acid was found to increase blood glucose in patients with diabetes (type 1 and type 2) treated for high cholesterol.
But as of late, it can now be safely used by diabetics.
Thiazide diuretics and beta blockers Originally, they were used to treat people with high blood pressure.
They are known to trigger type 2 diabetes when used.
