As previously reported, Amazon.com's Amazon Studios is giving 14 potential series for its streaming service a trial run, the most notable of which for horror fans' purposes is Zombieland, based on the 2009 hit movie. Now, Zombieland and the other 13 pilot episodes are available to watch online, after which viewers can provide feedback on which ones they think should be made into a full-fledged series.

So...should Zombieland make the cut? 

Selfishly, I vote yes, because I enjoyed the movie and would like to explore the universe created in it in greater depth. But honestly, in comparison to the other Amazon pilots, Zombieland's overall quality is middle-of-the-pack. The humor is adequately written but safe and predictable (in part because it uses some of the gags from the film), which is surprising given it's written by the same folks who penned the movie. There was a lot of backlash online from fans protesting the concept of a bunch of no-name actors portraying the roles played to well by Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, but I actually think this new cast did a good job -- except one. Kirk Ward seems like a decent enough actor, but Tallahassee (the role that Harrelson played) is just not in his range; instead of a no-nonsense zombie buttkicker, he comes across as a suburban dad dressed up as a zombie buttkicker. And he doesn't have a Southern accent. For all its faults, I cut Zombieland some slack because it is, after all, just a pilot, and hopefully, if it expands to more episodes, it can figure things out along the way -- starting with replacing Ward.
