Tourist spots on outbound itinerary from Mysore

Mysore is one of the historic magnets in Karnataka, India. Famous for Tipu Sultan's palace or Mysore Palace, the city offers many things to see within its boundary. Bandipur National Park

Of the tourist sports on the way from Mysore to Ooty, Bandipur National Park is a must visit. A drive from Mysore for 80 kilometers leads to the national park, a rich wildlife reserve. Part of most holiday tour packages for tourists in Karnataka, Bandipur National Park is home to some of the endangered species including Indian Tiger. Landscaped with a green carpet by the rows of deciduous trees that form a labyrinth of greenery, the park is an ideal visit during monsoon. This place of wilderness is located amidst the Nilgiri Hills, which makes the visit a rejuvenating one.  

Sriganapatna and Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary 

If you are a bird lover or an ornithologist, the outbound journey from Mysore includes a visit to Sriganapatna and Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary at a short drive of 19 kilometers. Sriganapatna is an interface between a river island and a town on the Kaveri River. The Kaveri River being called the Ganga of South India, visit to this island town is considered a pilgrimage for Hindus. The Ranganthittu Bird Sanctuary consists of river islets with bamboo plantations which define the scenic beauty of the place. A huge flock of migratory birds of different species makes the sanctuary a photographers' delight. 

Melkote

Gone are the days when man was in terms of peace with nature. However, a place on the itinerary from Mysore reminds of those days. It is Melkote. The town stands on the foundation of some old rocks. What brought Melkote to the notice of Karnataka Tourism are Cheluvanayanaswamy and Yoganarasimhaswamy Temples. Therefore, visit to this town is no less than a pilgrimage. The natives of Melkote are live under the influence of nature and live in a very simple manner. Sanskrit language is still alive in this part of the country.         

Somnathpur Temple

If you are curious about the architecture of ancient India, make sure to visit Somnathpur Temple or Somnathpura at a distance of 35 kilometers from Mysore. With Lord Janardhan and Venugopal as the presiding deities, the temple is located on the outskirts of the Mysore-Melkote route. The temple complex is called the cradle of stone architecture for delicate and diverse stone carvings. Built during the Hoysala Empire in between the 10th and 14th centuries, Somnathpur Temple is known for the mammoth pillars with sculptural engravings of Hindu deities, on the four sides.
