How to Keep Eucalyptus Fresh
- 1). Replace the water in the vase every three days with cold water if you have live eucalyptus plants. Re-cut about 1/2 inch of the stems from the base with a sharp knife every time you change the water. Get rid of any foliage that becomes submerged under the water after re-cutting.
- 2). Spray cut eucalyptus leaves used in arrangements and wreaths with water every night. Eucalyptus leaves typically only last a few days, but keeping them moist will help them stay fresh a little longer.
- 3). Use glycerin to keep dried eucalyptus leaves smelling fresh. Combine two parts water with one part glycerin, strip the stem of a branch of eucalyptus leaves no longer than 18 inches and submerge it in 6 inches of solution. You're finished when the leaves turn golden brown, which may take two to three weeks.
