Toys for Kids That Like to Perform

17

    Mike

    • When you give your child a microphone, even if it's a toy one, it's just as good as the real thing. Lots of the toy mikes actually work, and the child can hear herself instantly. They are not loud enough to make any trouble, but they are loud enough for the child to act out or perform with favorite artists. Take it to the next level and buy a small toy karaoke machine. By singing along with real music, your child will build vocabulary and tone control.

    Guitars

    • Start your child off with a toy guitar. Toy guitars are small for tiny fingers and hands. They are light, and your child can strap it on and carry it, or perform in front of a mirror standing up. Many toy guitars will actually tune, stay in tune and are playable. You can tune the guitar to an open chord. If you don't know how to do this, have a guitar player do it for you. When you have the toy guitar tuned to an open cord, then the child can strum the guitar and it will sound good without any fingers on the frets.

    Drums

    • Let your child perform a drum solo. Watch your child's eyes light up as she begins whacking and pounding a drum set. Drum sets are made to take abuse, and the small toy sets are not very loud. If she stays with her toy drum set for a few days, chances are that she will learn rhythm. Toy drum sets are made for children as small as 2 years old. They are tiny, yet still function. If your child likes to show off, get her some drums.

    Percussion

    • If your child likes to perform but doesn't seem to have any musical ability, get him some hand-held percussion instruments. Buy him some toy maracas, a tambourine, a simple wood block or cowbell. He can then play along with music videos without knowing music theory. Dance is also accompanied by hand-held percussion instruments. If he likes to dance, sometimes just holding something in his hands can help your child to get in the groove. There is a large supply of toy percussion instruments available at most toy stores.

    Puppets

    • If your child is shy but still likes to perform, try puppets. Get her some small hand-held puppets of any kind. Let her channel through the puppets. She can make them sing, dance or just interact with each other. Planning a story line and performing it with puppets can also be rewarding to the child.
