Ancient Wisdom
The wisdom of Native Peoples from every corner of the world is amazingly similar. Each has the same message, told in different words.
The message is:
We need to wake up to our spiritual self. We have to learn to love each other. We are called to care and heal the Earth
There is No Coincidence.
There are many gatherings of elders, medicine peoples and shamans happening at this time. The Earth appears to be in grave peril. Scientific studies indicate that the polar icecaps are melting; large numbers of the planets oceans, rivers and streams are becoming more polluted each day; and the air is filled with toxins. Hate, disease, and poverty are reported to be in epidemic proportions, worldwide. Given the current state of affairs if ever there was a need for hope, it is now.
If welisten to the ancient wisdom of the Native Peoples, hope is tangible. We can save the Earth and ourselves. We are the change we have been longing for, sought and hoped would come. Ancient wisdom tells us we need only to believe, forgive, act, and give thanks.
Today, many people are returning to the ancient wisdom of Native Peoples from around the world. Indigenous leaders are joining to help bring understanding, peace, and healing to all.
Long time ago, our old ones were the storytellers. This was the way things were passed along to the generations that followed. For this reason the aged people made it a point to remember every detail so they could relate it at a later time. They were the word and picture carriers making history and spiritual values alive and important. In recent times we have made our old ones think they are not so important. We spoof their stories and make them feel foolish. The truth is that we are ignorant of what is precious and how to appreciate age. Rigidity can creep in and set even the young mind if there are no soft memories, no laughter, no times too deep for tears. Age is grace a time too valuable to waste now.
Gathering of the Peoples
The International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers gathered for the first time in 2004. Their purpose was to bring women from all indigenous cultures together to share their ancient wisdom, look for connections and act to bring balance back to the Earth and its people.
It was not a unique gathering. In Greenland, elders from around the world gathered for the lighting of the Sacred Fire in 2009. To the Indigenous Peoples of Greenland, this was the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy. According to prophecy, "the Sacred Fire would return to the People on top of the world" when it was needed most.
Trees do not grow in Greenland due to harsh climatic conditions; however, since the Polar icecap has begun to melt, the climate change has brought about the growth of trees. With wood readily available to the People, the Sacred Fire returned to Greenland. The lighting of the Sacred Fire brought elders from cultures world wide to pray for the "melting of men's hearts" and the awakening of all to the immediate need to save the Earth. Simultaneously, people around the world held Sacred Fire circles.
The Native Peoples of Peru, who have lived for hundreds of thousands of years high in the mountains, came down from their homes to teach the world the ancient philosophy, shamanic teachings and rites of Earth keepers. the purpose of these teaching is to connect humans today to the energy that will be the catalyst of evolutionary growth and change.
In 2007, Sir Richard Branson, Nelson Mandela, and Peter Gabriel formed The Elders- a group of peacemakers from around the world. This diverse group, many of whom are Nobel laureates, gather to purpose solutions for the global problems of poverty, AIDS, climate change and to initiate peaceful resolutions to the conflicts around the world. Based on the tradition of a council of elders found in many cultures, The Elders share their collective wisdom, experience and insight with world leaders.
Opponents of these gatherings find the emergence of the teachings of Native Peoples threatening. Many opponents have labeled the teachings as "new age" or "heretical" due to lack of scientific proof, religious convictions or personal bias. But these teachings have been in place for millenniums, sharing similar wisdom in all the great spiritual teachers.
