How to Root a Fuschia Branch
- 1). Wash a small container with drainage holes with soapy water. Rinse the container with a mixture of one part bleach and nine parts water. This eliminates any plant disease and hiding insect pests. Let the container air dry completely.
- 2). Mix together equal parts of peat moss and perlite to create a good draining soil. Fill the container with the soil mixture.
- 3). Cut a branch cutting from the tip that is 6 inches long and has two or three pairs of leaves. Use a sharp knife dipped in the bleach mixture.
- 4). Remove the leaves from the bottom half of the branch to create a bare stem. Make a hole in the center of the soil with the eraser end of the pencil. Slide the stem of the fuchsia branch into the hole and firm the soil around the plant.
- 5). Mist the soil with water in a spray bottle until the soil is damp. Cover the cutting with a clear plastic bag. Place the cutting in a location with indirect light. Open the bag daily to let fresh air in and check the moisture of the soil. Remove the bag in three to four weeks once new roots have started growing.
