Conjunctivitis, also known as Pink Eye, is an eye infection that results in inflammation of the conjunctiva.
This inflammation makes the small blood vessels in the conjunctive more prominent causing a reddish or pinkish cast to your eyes.
This type of eye infection is commonly caused by a virus similar to the one that causes common cold.
Hence the occurrence of pink eye is often accompanied by cold.
Apart from this, it can also have an allergic origin when the infection is caused by allergy cosmetics, skin medicines, air pollution, smoke, or other similar allergic substances.
When caused through an allergy, conjunctivitis is often accompanied by redness and itchiness.
It can also be caused by a bacterial infection that results in a pus-like discharge and crusting.
Be it any origin, pink eye causes pain and discomfort in eyes.
Most of the people use home cure for the treatment but in extreme cases doctor's consultation is always advisable.
Here are some of the best remedies and cure for treating conjunctivitis: • Do not touch your eyes with your fingertips.
• Use clean handkerchief or tissue to wipe your eyes.
• Do not rub your eyes.
• Soak a cloth in warm water and apply on the infected eye thrice or four times a day.
• You can also tie ice cubes in a cloth and keep it on your eyes.
• Make sure you wash your hands and clothes well because this is a contagious infection that can spread to others in your family.
• Make sure you use a separate soap when you have eye infection.
• Change pillow cover each night till the infection stays.
• Avoid all kinds of allergic substances like dust and cosmetics.
• The decoction of turmeric is a good remedy for pink eyes.
It can either be used for washing your eyes or used as a compress.
• Make triphala lotion by boiling triphla chooran in water.
Filter the solution and use it as an eye wash.
• Intake of fresh amla juice is also an effective cure for such an eye infection.
• You can even use lubricating eye-drops like netrabingu to reduce swelling and soothe irritation.
