Video: How to Make Braids in Hair With Two Strands
Video Transcript
Hi, I'm Jenny Balding, professional hairstylist. Today, I'm going to show you how to make braids in hair with two strands. The only tools you'll need today is a small band, a finishing brush, oval small finishing brush and a texturizing spray. Today, we're going to use a work in spray which is Redken's Fashion Work 12. So this is already second day hair but just to add to that movement and texture running through, I'm going to add a little bit of the Fashion Work spray. This will just bring out a little bit more of her natural texture and you're just doing it lightly, just lifting the hair up and spraying it lightly into the hair all the way around. This will just give the hair a little bit more grab. Just having a look at the front of your hair, just checking you have the front area exactly where you probably would like it just to fall casually. So I'm just going to now swoop the hair around to one side, leaving a few of the front pieces out because that really adds to this whole look and just bringing it round, what you want to do is just use your fingers to rake through, just through that nape area. You really don't want to use a brush because it's going to really make it too perfect at this point. So you're just going to split it in two. These are your two strands you're going to use and then just lightly twist around, it doesn't matter which way you go because the effect will be when you intertwine them together you're going to see a really nice effect. And this is a kind of foolproof way to do a braid. I'm just working around very loosely, you don't want to do it tightly. And as you go you can be pulling pieces out, just moving up, just to add to your own little personal texture there. Just work your way down, don't even go down right to the ends. Maybe leave a couple of inches out through the ends, really gives a better effect. And take your small band and just very lightly just tie at the bottom again. You're not trying to get anything too tight, too perfect. Another trick is also you can actually tie the hair, a little piece of the hair right around the band also in case you don't have a clear band and you can pin it very lightly just through here. So last season we did this so much at fashion week because so many designers loved it because it's so easy and so relatable to work with as well and it just really is perfect and you know, we did a mixture of different kind of braids but I think this gives you the idea of it but without having to actually have the talent to actually do the braid so this is so easy to work with. Also through the front area, you can also just twist just a couple of pieces as well. You could entwine them also and do something where you wanted to pin it back off your face. It doesn't have to be hanging down. It's really whatever you want it to be because it's really a disheveled texture to it and it just looks really casual. You could wear this to the beach or you could actually wear it on the red carpet or an evening out, all depending on what you to wear it to get to. So there you go, this is how you make braids in hair with two strands. I'm Jenny Balding and thank you for watching.
