How to Smoke in the Oven With Wood Chips and Water
- 1). Soak a cup of wood chips in cool water for one hour. The wood chips need to be fully submerged in the water.
- 2). Move the bottom oven rack so that it sits close to the bottom of the oven. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
- 3). Strain the wood chips in a colander. Spread the wood chips in the bottom of a baking pan that is large enough to hold your meat. You only need enough wood chips to cover the bottom of the pan, so do not stack them or you might have a lot of smoke filling up your kitchen.
- 4). Place a baking rack in the pan, over the wood chips. Set your meat on the baking rack, and then place everything on the bottom oven rack.
- 5). Turn on the ventilation fan or open windows in your home to remove the smoke. This will prevent your home from smelling like a barbecue.
- 6). Cook the meat until it reaches the desired internal temperature. Add more soaked wood chips while the meat cooks if desired.
