How to Mount a Fish Finder Transducer on a Trolling Motor
- 1). Position the transducer along the bottom of the motor housing. Mount it to the forward end of the housing rather than the propeller end. If the transducer has a circular shape, it is non-directional and does not have to be adjusted after mounting. If it is any other shape, it is directional and should be positioned so the narrowest end faces forward and the wider ends parallel the motor housing.
- 2). Insert the hose clamp through the opening for it at the top of the transducer. Take care that the transducer remains properly positioned along the motor housing if it is a directional make. Wrap the hose clamp around the motor housing. Use the screwdriver to tighten it until it is secure.
- 3). Check to make sure the transducer is firmly secured and properly positioned after fully tightening the hose clamp to make sure that underwater obstructions and debris will not easily cause it to slip off the motor housing.
- 4). Plug the cable into the transducer, then route it around the motor housing and secure it to the motor shaft using nylon ties or cable ties provided with your transducer. Use a tie every 3 to 5 inches along the shaft. Leave enough slack at the bottom of the cable to allow you to move and retract the trolling motor normally.
- 5). Route the top of the cable to the control panel after you have secured the bottom of it to the motor shaft with the ties. Use the knife to cut off any excess length from the ties.
- 6). Plug the top end of the cable into the control panel. Test the unit in the water before going out into the lake. Make sure all power connections to the trolling motor and the fish finder are on, then turn the control panel to the "On" position. If the screen shows the bottom with a depth read-out, your unit is working properly.
